Return to Home | Return to Biography

Asheville High School was constructed during the years of 1927 through 1929.  Douglas Ellington was given the commission to build this building while also building the City Building and the S&W Cafeteria.

The erection of the new senior high school building of Asheville was the first step in a comprehensive program that had as its ultimate objective the creation of a municipal college.  This became true when Asheville-Buncombe Technical College opened behind Asheville High School.
