Asheville High School was
constructed during the years of 1927 through 1929. Douglas Ellington
was given the commission to build this building while also building the
City Building and the S&W Cafeteria.
To the left is a picture of the main entrance to Asheville High School. This type of dramatic doorway is typical of the Romantic/Art Deco Style of design used by Douglas Ellington. The erection of the new senior high school building of Asheville was the first step in a comprehensive program that had as its ultimate objective the creation of a municipal college. This became true when Asheville-Buncombe Technical College opened behind Asheville High School. |
