Health District

 

San Antonio Metropolitan Health District helps to promote the health of  the citizens of the city and prevent diseases.  They assure the health needs of the city such as:
Animal Control and Pet Adoption  - This department is in charge of picking up stray dogs and providing services for people to adopt animals in their facility.
Birth and Death Certificates - This department provides copies of birth and death certificates for people of the city.
Neighborhood  Clinics - These clinics around the city provide services to people who can not afford medical care. 
Diabetes Prevention and Care - This department works to help people in our city who have diabetes.  
Environmental Services/Food License and Sanitation - This department inspects food service companies.  They also provide the licenses to people who serve food in their business.
Health Education and  Promotion - This department promotes safety to the city employees and also has services that help people who can not afford them. (e.g. car seats, information on chronic diseases, etc.)
HIV/AIDS Program - This department helps people who have HIV/AIDS with information for finding people and places who can help.
Immunization - This department gives people information about all types of immunizations.
School Health Programs - This department works actively with all the city's school districts and day care centers to provide the right nutrition to the children of our city.
Tuberculosis Program - This department helps people who have tuberculosis in our city.
WIC Program - WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children.  This department helps women who are going to have a baby and those with small children.  They get vouchers to help them buy basic foods such as milk, eggs, and milk for their babies.
