Things you need to know to be a council member!

 

How long do you have to live in the district you are running for?
You have to at  least live 6 months in the district.

 

What happens if they move to a new district?
If they move some where else,  they will have to vacate their office.

 

Can a council member hold another job? 
No member of the council can hold another job or office in which they get paid by the city.

 

What is the council responsible for?

The council will control the city,  property,  finances,  and shall create, change,  or eliminate laws of our city.

 

How many terms does the council serve?
Any council member serves only two terms.   A term is 2 years.

 

How much money does a council member get paid?
They get paid $20 dollars a meeting and no more than $1,040 dollars a year.

 

What happens if a council member breaks the law or doesn't follow his qualifications of his/her job?
If they break the law or don't follow the qualifications rules for councilman/woman,  they will have to give up their seat as councilman/woman.

 

What happens if a council member leaves his/her position?
If there is a vacancy among the council board the other council members will choose or vote for a replacement.

 

How is a council member elected?
A council member is elected by a majority vote of the qualified voters in the district.
