Flags and other Symbols
The state flag was adopted in 1897. The colors of the flag are gold, white, and blue. On the banner the word "Hope" appears. It is the title of the state song.
The state seal was adopted in 1636. Around the edge it says, ''Seal of Rhode Island and Providence plantations.''
