History of Italy

The Italians have had a great history from ancient times to present times. It has been around for a long time and in many wars. It has a great heritage dating back to early times.

During the time World War I was going on, Italy stated its current agreement with the countries Germany and Austria-Hungary. Then in 1915, the Italians entered the war on the same side as the Allies. While Italy was under the post war settlement, they received some land that was once a territory of Austria. In the year 1922, a man named Benito Mussolini became powerful. Over the next few years, he eliminated political parties.

During the years between 1935-1945, Italy was at war almost constantly. Mussolini conquered the Ethiopians in 1936. Benito Mussolini sent nearly 70,000 men to help win the Spanish Civil War. The Italians fought on the German side. They continued to fight in the war with some breaks until 1945.

Italy has been in many wars, including World War I and II. These are the wars you may have heard of Italy being in. The Italians were also in the Italo-Ethiopian War which was fought against Ethiopia.

Italy has been around for a long time. The Renaissance started in Italy in the 1300's. It did not reach England until the 1400's. The official language of Italy is Italian. The first people in Italy were probably the Romans. However, Italy was not called Italy while the Romans lived there. Today, many people who are of Italian descent live all over the world. I am proud to be half Italian.
