Most of the history you hear about Germany probably has to do with wars, or the Berlin wall, or even something about Hitler.
The Nazis - In the 1930's the Nazi Party became known as both good and bad. Hitler wanted to gain power by lawful reasons. Many people went to follow his idea after the Great Depression. Hitler's promises about the economy seemed helpful for the Germans. The Nazis soon became the strongest group. Even though Hitler was becoming an important person, he didn't do it for the good of the German people. Adolf Hitler then began to build a dictatorship and ruin the constitution.
World War II - On September 3, 1939, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany. Germans tried to help Poland but they weren't strong enough. In the spring of 1940 Germany captured Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
May of 1940 - Germany's army overwhelmed the French.
June of 1941 - The Soviet Union was invaded by German force.
At the end of 1941, Hitler started murdering and sending European Jews to concentration camps.
The Berlin Wall -The Berlin Wall was torn down in 1989 because East Germans wanted to travel, and they protested until the wall was down. People collected souvenirs by cutting pieces of the wall for themselves from what remained. For years Germany was divided into two by the 858 mile wall, the Berlin Wall. The two sides separated the Communists and the non-Communists.
