A Note to the
Teacher
This educational website
tells students about immigration in the past and present.
* The headings and type
are large on our pages for better viewing when used with
classroom monitors. The pages can be viewed with all
browsers. The preferred browser is Internet Explorer
4.5 or later versions. If using Netscape browsers
some animated images may not load automatically and will
require you to click and open the image first then go back
to the page to view the animation.
Visiting Ellis
Island gives students some information about the what it
was like coming to America and stopping at Ellis Island. You
can take your students to an excellent Scholastic site that
will take you on a virtual tour of Ellis Island. We would
recommend that if possible you find the CD or read the book
If Your Name Was Changed at Ellis Island by
Ellen Levine. (The CD is put out by Scholastic.) Please take
a look at all our links on our links page to gather
additional information about Ellis Island.
Immigration Today
gives information about how immigrants become citizens
today. After reading the information students can take a
quiz and email it to us. We will send them their score if
they include their address or email address. Students will
see and application for citizenship and view a slide show
about what immigrants need to know to become a US citizen.
At this site you will see a graph of our school's heritage
and we would encourage you to have your class to the same
thing and compare it to our graph. We have students in our
school who have recently come to America so we have some
interviews from them.
Books to Read We
love to read and we enjoyed learning about immigrants
through both nonfiction and historical fiction books. We
have included summaries for the fiction books and some
activities students will enjoy. For example, the book
The Bracelet has an activity for making a
friendship bracelet. Other book activities include writing
activities and visiting some good sites. Our class had to
pretend we were an immigrant and dress like that person and
tell about our experience. You can see our stories from a
link on our "About Us" page.
50 Facts On this
page there is an American flag. If you click on a star an
immigrant fact will pop up. 50 stars, 50 facts!
Guestbook Please
have your students sign our guestbook and send us a message.
This will be a fun and
educational website. It will teach your students alot about
coming to America past and present. We hope you like it!
Have fun!
