Coordinates

Home Main Menu

If you have ever used a map, then you have probably used coordinates.  Longitude and latitude on a globe or world map are an example of a coordinate system.  For example,  90 degrees West longitude and 30 degrees North latitude is Louisiana.

Coordinates are used to find exact locations and to graph information.  Quilt makers use coordinates to plan their patterns before they stitch their quilts.  The grid on a radar screen is a coordinate system.

Each point in a plane has two coordinates -- x and y.  These are the names of each axis in a plane.  The third dimension is labeled the z axis.
