Apatosaurus is
the correct name of the dinosaur that some people call Brontosaurus. Apatosaurus
was, on the average, 75 feet long, 30 feet of which was tail and 20 feet
of which was neck. It was 15 feet high at the hips and weighed between
30 and 40 tons.
Apatosaurus left an impressive footprint
on the sands of time-36 inches long and 26 inches wide. This dinosaur’s
front legs were shorter than its back ones. The shoulders were lower than
the hip, giving Apatosaurus a beautifully arched back.
Apatosaurus browsed among the treetops
for food. Because it had no molars (wide, flat back teeth used for grinding
food), it must have swallowed the leaves whole.
