First Lady, Lou Hoover
Was born on March 19, 1874 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Charles Henry and Florence Weed Henry. She was the eldest of two daughters. She attended a training school for teachers. Later she entered Stanford to study geology. TOP

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lou first met the future President Herbert
Hoover one afternoon in the geology lab when her professor introduced her to his most promising student. After their courtship, they were married on February 10, 1899 in a simple wedding in Monterey, California. Their first son, Herbert Junior was born in 1903. She contributed to her husband's campaign by entertaining since Herbert was uneasy among strangers. Herbert Hoover was elected as the President of the United States in 1928. During their years in the White House, Lou supported the Girl Scouts, serving as the group's national president.
