You Can't Count

Prove to friends that they can’t count after they mess up in a number sequence.

Effect:

Prove to your friend that they can’t count.

Routine:

Tell your friend that they can’t count and you’ll prove it. Your friend may say, "OK" or "you’re on". Then you tell your friend, "This is a fast counting game and you need to be quick. When I stop counting you quickly pick-up where I stopped."

You start the counting, after about 5 numbers you stop. Your friend will mess up and say the wrong number. Your friend just skipped 900 numbers!

Props:

None

Method:

Tell your friend the first paragraph of the routine.

Start your number sequence with four thousand ninety-four. Then four thousand ninety-five, four thousand ninety-six, and so on. Stop at four thousand ninety-nine. Your friend will answer, "five thousand". Then you say, "wrong, four thousand one hundred."

How it works:

In this trick, people are lulled into saying the wrong thing.

After a couple of numbers they stop analyzing what you are saying. They are focused on being quick.
