Do you want to start a magic act? Are you not sure what type of magic you want to use? We can give you a few tips to make up your mind.

What to Say If You Want to Be Humorous

It is hard to tell a joke on stage while doing a trick, but if you follow just a few suggestions it can be a breeze.

Make jokes relating to your act/trick.
Do little side tricks to catch your audience’s attention.
Keep your joke short! Use "one liners." They work better than long jokes. Long jokes may bore your audience.
Work on your timing. Saying jokes too late may confuse your audience.

What to Say When Telling a Story

So you want to tell a story in your act? Here are some helpful tips to improve your story.

Tell some history about your tricks and props.
Tell your story while setting up your props.
Make up a story to scare your audience.
Make your story relate to your moves in your tricks.
Keep your story short. Long stories might confuse and bore your audience.

Tips on Talking

Talk in your normal voice.
Don’t use accents.
Don’t use annoying speech habits, such as, "you know" or "sorta"
Talk clearly and slowly, but not too slow.
To make your act a drama, talk slower.
To make your act lively, talk faster, but stay clear.

What Not to Say

No "dirty" jokes.
Do not make jokes about people’s race or something they might feel deeply about such as religion or politics.
Do not insult your audience.
If you are young do not tell jokes referring to my "my wife."
Don’t use anyone else’s lines.
Do not shout.
Don’t tell your audience what you are doing. They can see!
Don’t tell what’s going to happen before it happens.
