The member of the reed-sounding musical instruments, it was invented about 1840 by Adolf Sax.  It contains 20 openings in the body.  Three parts to a saxophone, the mouthpiece, the neckpiece, and the body.  It is made of brass, but also can be made of plastic.  The most popular saxophone include these four different styles, the Soprano sax, the Alto sax, the Tenor sax, and the Baritone or Bari sax.  there is many other saxophones besides the ones listed.  Almost all saxophones have a curve at the end of horn called the bell.  The only saxophone that doesn't have a curve is the soprano sax.  They were introduced to the orchestra in 1844, and are in military bands.  But have mainly been most famous for their Jazz.  Since the late 20th century saxophones have grown very popular in the U.S. with the performances and Saxophonist playing jazz.  Many of the most recognized jazz saxophonist include Charlie parker who played the alto, John Coltran, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young.  Surprisingly, NBA basketball star Vince Carter plays the tenor saxophone as a hobby.
