Mars is a bit over half the size of  the Earth. Astronomers think that ancient civilizations were allied Mars with the god of war. Mars is often called the Red Planet because of it's red deserts. The year on Mars is 683 Earth days and it's day lasts for 24 hours and 37 minutes. Mars has a 25 degree tilt on it's axis which gives it four seasons. Mars temperature barely reaches 32 degrees in the daytime and can drop to -190 degrees  at night. Mars has a diameter of 4,222 miles across.

Mars probably had some water and maybe some life starting. Then disappeared as the planet became cooler and gave up it's water to space. Not too long ago, a discover was made where a meteorite came from Mars had fossil bacteria. When the telescope was invented, people called it the "twin of Earth".
