The Horse Ghost

By Claudia

One early morning, a girl named Phoebe went to go horseback riding at a barn named Rosebud Farms.  The legend is that the first owner of Rosebud Farms died from unknown reasons and supposedly haunts Rosebud Farms every five years.  It was about the time of the Hampton Classic when Phoebe got on to her horse, Picture Perfect, and started to walk in the sand ring with her instructor, Max. Past the paddocks and the pots of flowers they went.  Max opened the gate and let Phoebe in.  They walked to the middle of the sand ring.  There was a lady named Michelle riding her horse in the ring.  Her horse was named Alabama.

"Just warm up by trotting a few laps around the ring," Max said.
"Okay," Phoebe agreed. Phoebe started trotting.  Around the second lap, Phoebe saw out of the corner of her eye an old man.  But when she looked back, the old man was gone.  Phoebe stopped.  "Max," Phoebe said, "I saw an old man out of the corner of my eye, but when I looked back, he was gone."

Max said, "Well, Rosebud Farms is the original site of the Hampton classic, and it is around the time of the Hampton Classic.  It has been exactly five years since a ghost has haunted Rosebud Farms.  That ghost probably wanted to see everyone ride her horse.  Don´t worry about him."

Phoebe started riding, and didnít see him again.  Michelle, meanwhile, did not know about any of this.  Each time she went around the ring, her horse, Alabama, got spooked when he was near the corner where Phoebe saw the man.  "Max, my horse is getting spooked," Michelle said as she pointed to her horse, then in the corner.  "Why does Alabama keep getting spooked?"

Max explained to her about the old man.  Then she got off her horse, walked to the corner and said to it, "Stop spooking my horse!"  Michelle got back on her horse and started riding again.  Her horse never got spooked at that corner again.
