Orchids are some of the
most beautiful plants in the world. One of the most well known
orchids is the lady slipper, but there are many more exotic types. Most orchids are found in southeast Asia. Tropical slipper orchids are usually pollinated by a single species
of bees or flies. The insect lands in the center of the flower, which
is extremely slippery, and falls into the middle of a pouch petal.
So the bug's stuck and only by climbing up the hairs at
the back of the pouch can the bug escape. This road takes it
right past the pollen sacks, and it pollinates the flower. Some flowers last only 1
day, but they're still just as beautiful as their longer-lasting relatives.
But, (just like everything else in the rainforest seems to be) the orchid
is in danger of extinction. Can we save the flowers?
