Leaf cutter ants eat fungus which they grow on chewed up leaves.  They grow fungus gardens which can be 20 feet ( 6 meters ) wide and a couple feet tall!

There are lots of kinds of ants that work in a nest like the queen, the workers, and the soldiers.  The soldiers can bite through human skin!

The workers take care of the fungus gardens.  They lick the leaves and clean  them with their droppings.

Every year a colony of 2 million ants can use more than 2000 pounds of leaves!

Army ants and driver ants can be dangerous to large animals.  They both travel in bands that can have more than 1 million members.  They attack insects, rodents, snakes and even live stock!

Watch your step because ants are everywhere in the rain forest.  They're so small you just might miss them and you wouldn't want to hurt them.
