THE "WASP-WAIST" WATCHER!

First, get a piece of typing paper. Fold it in half  (hamburger.)
Then, with it still folded, fold it in half the other way (hot dog.)
Open it and fold  in half the other way.

You should end up with the paper like this.

The section you cut out must have one side that's folded. Open it to a half page  and cut off one section.
Mark every inch or so (the paper is a bit over 4" so you'll have three marks.)

Beginning at the side that's folded, cut a line to about 1/2 inch from the other side.

Turn the paper over and cut again from the unfolded side to about 1/2 edge from the folded side.

Flip again and do one more cut from the folded side.  (Make sure you don't cut all the way through!)

Then, slide your scissors under the middle two sections on the folded side.  Snip the two pieces along the fold.

When you spread out the hole with your fingers, it's about 18"!

A measuring tape set at 18" is about the same size as the "waist watcher" you made!

P.J. is showing that 18" is not very big!  The ten year olds in our class have waists bigger than that!

Yet a corset was supposed to pull a woman's waist that small! Well, very few ladies ended up with 18" waists!  Most of them ended up in a faint!
