Scott O'Dell

Scott O'Dell was born on May 23, 1898. He lived in California for most of his life. As a child, he was very interested in the environment he lived in; the hills, the cliffs, but most of all, the ocean. "That is why,I suppose, the feel of the frontier and the sound of the sea are in my books." he said.

He became interested in writing when he was in his early twenties. His first career was being a writer of screenplays. He later began to write books for adults, such as Woman of Spain, his first book. Later, in 1960, he wrote his first book for young adults, The Island of the Blue Dolphins. He continued to write many other great novels, until he died of cancer in 1989.
