Cynthia
Voigt was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1942. She was the
second of four children. She got her bachelors degree at Smith
College, received a graduate degree from St. Michael's College,
got her teaching certificate from Christian Brothers College.
She taught for many years in Maryland.
Mrs.
Voigt first decided to become an author when she was in high
school. She started to write a book called Building Blocks, but
Homecoming was the first book she finished and got published.
She has written six other books about the Tillermans. They include
Dicey's Song for which she won the Newbery Award.
Mrs.
Voigt has won many awards for her novels and currently lives
in Maine.
