Homecoming
by Cynthia Voight

This book is about four children (Dicey 13, James 10, Maybeth 9, and Sammy 6). Their father left them when Dicey was seven. When Dicey turns 13, their mother loses her job and leaves the children at a mall. They wait for their mother to return but when she doesn't, Dicey takes charge. They walk to Bridgeport to find their Great-Aunt Cilla. They arrive to find out that their Aunt Cilla had died that March. They are able to live with a cousin while the police search for their mother.

Unfortunately, the children learn that their mother is in a mental hospital in Massachusetts. Dicey then finds out that she has a grandmother living in Rhode Island and decides they should travel there. Their life on the road is not easy and they have no money. Will they all safely reach Rhodes Island. Will Dicey's grandmother let them stay if they get there or will they have to hit the road again? Read Homecoming to find out.
