Sea otters travel in groups called “rafts. Males usually raft together, and females raft with their pups and other females. A territorial male will watch over pups and mothers of that territory. The
A male and female will live together for 3-4 days. While mating they groom each other and eat together. Once the female is pregnant the male moves on, leaving the female to give birth and raise a pup on her own. Males will mate with more than one female, but the females only mate with one male in a year.
Most sea otters tend to feed early in the morning, again in the late afternoon, and once more late at night or early in the morning. Each feeding lasts about two to three hours. Otters usually groom themselves before and after each feeding , and rest throughout the afternoon. Sea Otters are equally active both night and day. |
