Every once in a while a cavy will need to get a checkup. There are many diseases that can hurt the cavy.
Wet tail - Wet tail is a common disease. The signs are a smelly cage, and the guinea pig will be wet and messy around its hind quarters. This is called fadle.
Greasy fur - Greasy fur is kind of like when your hair gets greasy except it is much, much worse. Guinea pigs start to get bare spots, and they start to sweat. There is medicine to heal greasy fur.
Skin Problems - Guinea pigs have many skin problems like lice and other parasites. You may have to bathe them in fungicide to clear up the problem.
Teeth Problems - Your cavy will have to have some type of teething toy so its teeth will not grow long. If their teeth do get too long, you should go to a vet and have them filed.
Eye Problems - There are two main problems. One of them is when their tear ducts get blocked from their eye mucous. Another one is eye irritation when their eyes get dry and puffy. You can go get eye drops from your vet.
Constipation - This rarely happens, but when it does their poop is hard and dry. Make sure your guinea pig has plenty of fresh water.
Leg problems-leg problems are not very comon but do happen with small animals.
*To prevent these problems you should take your cavy to the vet once a year to make sure your cavy is healthy.*
