The St. Louis Cardinals established the franchise in the year 1889 as the St. Louis Perfectos. The next year the Perfectos changed their name to the Cardinals. After many unsuccessful seasons, the Cardinals finally won their first World Series in 1926 led by superstar Rogers Hornsby. The Cardinals won eight more World Series until 1982 when they won their ninth and final World Series.
The greatest Cardinals players are probably Dizzy Dean, Rogers Hornsby, Bob Gibson, Stan Musial, Orlando Cepeda, Mark McGwire, Ducky Medwick, and Lou Brock. The Cardinals now tear up the National League Central Division led by superstar first baseman Mark McGwire. The Cardinals go down in history as one of the greatest teams in National League history.
