Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks started the franchise in the year 1998 under management of Buck Shulwalter. Like most expansion teams the Diamondbacks had an unsuccessful season. Little did the league know the Diamondbacks had not just Randy Johnson but some other unknown stars as well. Once the 1999 season started up, the D-backs were becoming well known, and those "unknown stars" like Matt Williams, Luis Gonzalez, and Steve Finley stepped up a few notches. By the end of the season the Diamondbacks had easily won the N.L. West division and made it into the playoffs.

Unfortunately the Diamondbacks were defeated by the much more experienced Atlanta Braves and were knocked out of the playoffs. The next season the Diamondbacks had a tougher time. Despite the 19-7 season by Randy Johnson and the 30+ home run seasons by Luis Gonzalez and Steve Finley, Arizona couldn't do it twice in a row. Even though they played great, the Giants won the N.L. West and the New York Mets won the wild card. Expect the Diamondbacks to improve in the future and don't under estimate this team from Phoenix!
