The Brewers began a treacherous franchise in 1969 when they were the poor Seattle Pilots. Their home opener only attracted 7,000 fans. As a result, their first season ended with a pathetic 98 losses. Luckily for the franchise, the attendance improved by 38% when they moved to Milwaukee to become the Brewers. They experienced losing seasons until 1973 when they finally advanced to third.
The squad was able to stay mediocre until the addition of Mike Caldwell who was an expert when it came to pitching. He won 22 games in 1978, and the team finished second. With Rollie Fingers who knew how to keep leads, the Brewers were able to keep the little leads they got. Finally in 1982, the Brewers made it to the World Series. But since the Cardinals easily overpowered the helpless Brewers, you could bet that they didn't do well.
After a few puny years the Brewers finished two games out of first, but the 1988 season belonged to the first place team. Since then the Brewers have been sweeping the N.L. cellar. They hope their new stadium will bring them happiness, but they need their players to contribute as well.
