All players rely strongly on their pitcher to throw pitches that are hard to hit. When a batter gets a hit, the pitcher then relies on the infielders and outfielders to do their jobs. On occasions when the infield misses or when the ball is hit past the infield, the outfielder comes into action. One job of outfielders is to back up the infielders.
When the infield gets the ball they usually throw it to the first baseman, but they also might throw it to the other bases. The infielders throw to the base where the lead runner is running to. You always want to throw out the lead runner since that runner is the one who would be first to score. When the outfield gets the ball, they either throw it to the cut-off man, the second baseman, or the catcher to stop the scoring run.
