The Undying Past of the Shenandoah National Park

Our first introduction to The Undying Past of Shenandoah National Park, a book by Darwin Lambert, came on a Saturday morning. Becky Fisher, our assistant coach, showed us the data that is in the back of the book. The book is the history of the park. It only has one chapter about the displacements, but that one chapter definitely covered what happened from Mr. Lambert’s point of view. We have used it in many ways from using the data to just reading some of it to get Mr. Lambert’s point of view. It is a very amazing piece of literature. It begins with the ancient people that lived in Virginia to the present day Shenandoah National Park.

We have interviewed Mr. and Mrs. Lambert, but it wasn’t until after we had interviewed them that we found that Mr. Lambert’s family were friends with George Freeman Pollock’s family. Most of the kids in our team think of George Pollock as the ‘bad guy.’ He was for the park and would do anything he could to make it happen. When we found that Mr. Lambert knew him, that surprised us.
