Tenant Farming in Virginia

Hollow Folk said that the displaced people were unable to sustain themselves. Look at the map of the total number of tenant farming in 1940. A tenant farmer was a lot like sharecropper. People had to have a decent amount of money to own enough land to sustain themselves and still have room to offer sharecroppers. With the number of tenant farmers, do you think Hollow Folk was truthful or misrepresents the truth?
