The I&M Canal(which is short for the Illinois and Michigan Canal)is a canal in the North Eastern part of Illinois. The canal started in Chicago. It connected with the south fork of the South Branch of the Chicago River (also known as Bubbly Creek). The canal was 96 miles long. It was extended from Chicago to Peru, Illinois. The canal was built in a community in Chicago called Bridgeport. Bridgeport is a small community lying in the southern part of Chicago. The canal was a big success there as it was also in Lockport.
