Nuclear Free Zones

Up

There is a nuclear free zone where nuclear weapons are banned and not manufactured or tested. Nuclear free zones are established by peace treaties. The nuclear powers are not permitted to bring nuclear weapons in to the nuclear free zones at any times. The Africa Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (Treaty of Pelindaba) was signed in 1966. Most of the southern hemisphere was a nuclear free zone. The first nuclear treaty was in the Antarctic.

The South Pacific Nuclear free zone has 14 countries that are part of this free zone. It was signed in August in 1985. This treaty is now known as the Treaty of Rarotonga

Some of the few countries in the SPF are New Zealand, Australia, and some of the New Guiana. The nuclear powers signed this so that they may never use nuclear weapons into these countries for any reason.

The treaty of the southeast Asia Nuclear Free-zone. It is also nicknamed ASEAN or Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Ten countries are included in the ASEAN. It was signed in the year of 1995 in the month of December. None of the five nuclear powers signed this protocol. This allows any of the five Nuclear powers to enter its free zone with nuclear weapons. But none of the countries in this free zone may import or use nuclear weapons.

The treaty of Latin America and Caribbean was signed in February of 1985. All 33 nations within the sphere of application. This treaty was called the Treaty of Tlatelolco. 32 of the countries accepted or ratified the treaty. The Five nuclear powers accepted this treaty and do not have permission to go in to this zone with nuclear weapons.

The Antarctic treaty was the first to be signed. 42 nations signed and ratified the treaty. No nuclear explosions, and disposal of radioactive waste are permitted in this nuclear free zone at any times. In Antarctica nuclear waster and nuclear weapons are completely banned and not available there for any reason what so ever.

We wish the whole world would be a nuclear free zone!
