Hiroshima By Laurence Yep
Hiroshima is about a little girl named Sachi. At age12 she suffered burns and injuries and was disfigured from the blast of the atomic bomb. When she was older, Sachi was chosen by the U.S. to be one of twenty-five Japanese women to be brought to the U.S. for plastic surgery. After the operation she was no longer afraid to show her face in public. She also made new friends in the U.S. and learned English. When she left, she was sad and happy to go. This book is very informative. It is also a heartwarming story about a little girl who suffered greatly and her road to recovery. This story is told truthfully and without being offensive to either side (U.S. or Japan). This book taught me about the horrors an atomic bomb can do to people. It told about how Sachi was afraid to go out of her house. The U.S. occupations helped her to be able to use her arm (it was disabled by the bomb) and show her face in public. Other people should read it because it will teach them the horror of an atomic bomb and inspire them to speak up against the use of nuclear weapons.
