Diseases that humans catch can also be caught by dogs. Dogs can suffer
from
colds,
tonsilitis, infections in the kidneys, cancer, gallstones, jaundice, and
goiter.
They
can also suffer from pneumonia, pleurisy, heart disease, asthma, and tuber
culosis.
Distemper is a dog disease which is sort of like human influenza.
It can be
avoided if your dog is inoculated when it is three mouths old. Most
dogs
suffer from worms in their digestive system. Roundworms, tapeworms,
and
hookworms are the most common. Your dog sould be wormed at two months
old, a year, and once a your after that.
Dogs also suffer from skin trouble. One of most important diseases
your dog
can catch is mange. It can cause numerous skin troubles, which are
caused by very small animals(Mites)
which burrow into the skin and cause inflammation. Many of these
pest can be
killed with the right chemicals.
Rabies, which was once named hydrophobia, is one of the most awful diseases
a dog could have. Thankfully, it is very rare today. It is
passed on from one dog to
another by biting anyone or any other animal. If your dog is correctly
controlled
by you ,then there should be a small chance of your dog getting rabies.
Dogs can be
immunized against rabies. Immunization protects the dog against rabies
from 4 to 8
months.
