Pompeii was an ancient city
in Italy until that horrible day that Mt. Vesuvius erupted covering the
entire city in cinders, ashes, and rock. Pompeii was rediscovered in the
1700's. In the 1500's workers digging a underground tunnel for the Sarno
River found parts of the amphitheater, temple, and forum.Then in 1748 a
poor man digging a well struck one of Pompeii's walls .The eruption of
Mt.Vesuvius didn't just destroy Pompeii but neighboring cities of Stabiae
and Herculanium .The center of Pompeii was like the Time Square of Pompeii.
It had some of Pompeii's most important buildings in it .It had the theater,
amphitheater, gladiators' court, temples, and three public bathhouses.The
Pompeiians' houses were just about all the same.The master's house had
the main house and gardens. The farms had stables, orchards, barns,
and fields. Pompeii carried on prosperous trade of wine, oil, and breadstuffs.The
Pompeiians did have a warning before the disaster. In 63 A.D. Pompeii experienced
an earthquake of high proportions that destoyed parts of Pompeii. But they
thought nothing of it. In 79 A.D. the volcano suddenly erupted violently.The
sky filled with black smoke and poisonous gases. Hot ash and rocks came
raining down upon the city. Archeologists have found molds of people in
the hardened ash by pouring plaster into the molds.
