In 1948 the United Nations took a vote to decide if the Jews should get the land known back then as Palestine. The United Nations voted to create the country of Israel. The night Israel was declared a country, Arabs and Jews had a huge fight in the streets that went on for many days and the Jews won. The fighting that happened in 1948 still goes on today.
