Basic History

Before the Constitution and at about the same time as the Declaration of Independence, we had the Articles of Confederation, which were produced by John Dickinson in 1776 and adopted by the Continental Congress in November of 1777. If you want to learn more about that, click on the Historical Documents link below, then click on the Articles of Confederation link. When the colonists first arrived, the government was horrible. Over time our government improved a lot. Much more awaits you, and it is full of information.
