COURTS

 

Military courts are courts that have trials for people in the armed forces.

Divorce courts decide if a married couple can be divorced.

Juvenile courts are courts where people below the age of 18 go on trial.

Common Pleas courts are courts that handle small cases, such as minor theft.

 

Circuit courts handle larger cases, such as grand theft or murder. There are

11 circuits divided by states.

The Supreme Court is the highest court in America. It has 9 justices in all.

(1chief and 8 associates) It interprets laws and makes sure law are constitutional.

RELATIONS WITH OTHER BRANCHES

The Supreme Court has the final say in laws. It decides if laws are constitutional. If they aren’t, the Supreme Court can say they aren't laws. They also participate in impeachment and checks and balances.

LAW ENFORCEMNT

The police department and state highway patrol arrest people and take them to jail. They stay in jail until proven innocent or released. If there is a shoot-out or a suspect has weapons the S.W.A.T. team gets involved.
