BEETHOVEN
A TRUE STORY OF HOW I GOT MY DOG
We had lived in our new house for about 6 months
and my sister and I were wanting a dog. Our dogs were old and had
died before we moved. Our parents had told us to wait until summer
and then we would get a dog. Well, one day my sister and I looked
out the front window and there in our front yard was the skinniest most
pitiful looking puppy anyone has ever seen. I was almost four years
old and when I saw that poor puppy I ran out the door in just my boxers.
When my mom looked out and saw the two of us together she couldn't say
no.
Since we didn't have a dog we didn't have
dog food either so all we could find to feed her was leftover ribs.
Mom got the ribs out and my sister and I fed her. Then mom said if
we cleaned our rooms and playroom really good our dad would probably let
us keep her. That would show that we could be responsible.
It worked because Dad said yes. He did
say she needed to go to the Vet and be checked out first. Dad took
her to the Vet. She told him that other than being skinny the puppy
seemed okay.
The next thing we had to do was try to find
her owner. She was very skinny, afraid of sticks, and afraid of loud
voices. We didn't really want to find her owner and were glad when
nobody claimed her.
One day she was in my dad's truck when he
stopped at the quick shop down the hill from our house. A man went
over to him and said that he was glad she had a good home. She was
out of his litter of pups and the person who took her was not nice to her
and had dumped her. He also said that she was a bear dog.
Now she is healthy, playful, happy, and has
made a great pet. She likes to lay on the beds, even when mom says
no, and can be very quiet when I take her to bed with me. She doesn't
hunt bear, but does like to bark at and chase birds and butterflies.
Having a pet find you is a great way to get a wonderful, loving, loyal
pet.
