SNAKES
|
The things you need to take care of snakes are below. |
Temperature
Snakes need to be kept at 80 to 88 degrees F at night they need to
be kept at 5 to 20 degrees below their normal temperature.
Housing
Every
cage should be easy to clean up and escape proof . Aquariums with pegboard
tops are good plastic boxes can also work if enough air holes are cut.
The smallest cage size should be 1/2 square foot for every foot of snake
and an added 25% for each snake. The cage has to be cleaned
every week or they will get sick. Don't use coal tar or phenol products
to clean the cage they are toxic. Some floor covering can help clean
up. Paper is best this includes news paper. Cedar chips can be toxic.
Saw dust and kitty litter can give incurable pneumonia. All cages
require a hiding place and water bowl.
Feeding
Snakes
will never eat anything but meat. When you can the snakes natal food
should be given. Adult snakes should be fed
every week. While young snakes should be fed more often. Don't leave a
rat or mouse in the cage for more than an hour or it might eat the snake.
If your snake won't eat it might be to cold. They may also want its
food in a hiding place. Only use force feeding as the last choice.
Shedding
Every couple of months a snake will shed its skin. The eyes will
mist then clear the snake might not eat during this period. Daily
misting will help problems. If skin won't shed dip in warm water
and the skin will come loose.
You need to keep records of shedding and diseases
and feeding schedules these records are required by law.
