Birds can cost anywhere from $10.00 to $10,000.00 but you don't have to worry because the bird you'll probably want won't cost $10,000.00 or even $5,000.00. The expensive birds are extremely rare and most of the times don't make good pets.
You shouldn't go into your backyard and catch a bird yourself wild birds can carry diseases and can even be violent if they do not get the space to fly around in that they are used to. The best place to get a bird is from a breeder, or someone who specializes in selling a certain breed of bird. Or you can get a bird from a pet store. Birds from a breeder or a pet store most often do not carry diseases that can harm you.
Not only does it cost money to buy a bird but
it also costs money to keep a bird. Birds can live up to 60 years so you
should be prepared to buy supplies for that bird for the rest of it's life.
Sounds like a lot to take care of, doesn't it?
It is. I don't say this to intimidate you. You will have many happy days with your pet but it does take a lot of responsibility.
Birds require lots of supplies. They need:
Is there a certain type of cage I will need and what should I put in it?
A cage needs to be a sturdy one that will not break under the pressure of the beak. An ideal cage would be a metal or wire cage that is includes 4 important features. One is a perch. A perch will allow birds to hang on to something so they can reat and relax. The second thing is some cage bedding. Cage bedding or some other type of floor coverinwill make it easier to clean up those little suprises thatyour bird leaves behind. You should remember to change the bedding every two weeks. The thirdthingis a cage cover. This will allow the bird to have a time of relaxation. This item is especialy useful if your house is active and noisy. The final necesity is a food clip. These clip on to the side of the wall and hold food so that wen the bird pcks at food, it doen't end up on the floor.
If you did not know already, birds are very smart and just like you they need to exercise their brain! Instead of homework to exercise their brains, birds use toys. Toys can also help to control the urge to squawk and will also make the bird a little less hyper. Toys are great but you have to have the right size of toy to fit your bird. The price of toys can cost anywhere from $1.00 to $50.00. If you have a big bird, don't let it have small toys. They can break easily under the pressure of the beak. If you have a small bird, give it small toys so it won't be scared the toys will attack. Another factor is what material the toys are made of. Plastic toys will break under the pressure of the beak of the larger bird, no matter what the size. No matter what size your bird is, check the labels on the package you get your toys out of to check to see if the material the toy is made out of is non-toxic. If the toy is wood, make sure the wood has not been stained. If the wood is colored, make sure the paint is non-toxic. Also make sure that your toys you get your bird are sturdy and won't break. Buy different toys that meet these requirements and constantly rotate them to keep the birds attention.
No matter what animal you have, you will always need a vetrenarian to to keep it healthy and help it recover from any diseases. Make sure the vet you pick is certified to help birds. Most vets do but it is always good to be on the safe side. Most of all, make sure the vet you pick is one that will do a good job. Don't intrust an animal to someone you wouldn't trust your life to. (Well, you might not want to intrust your life to your vet.

Talking animals. Who'd thought
There are two types of talking birds. There are those who talk, and
those who mimic. Most talking breeds are exotic because, well, a talking
animal is exotic. Some of the most common large-breed talking birds include
African greys and Yelow-naped Amazons. These birds have some of the most
extended vocabulary of all the breeds fo birds out there. Macaws, Eclectus,
other Amazon birds, and cockatoos also talk just not as much as the African
greys and Yellow-naped Amazons.
Some medium sized talkers are Indian ringnecks,
Quaker parakeets, male cockatiels, blue- crowned conures, and chattering
lories. The most talkative bird si a male parakeet.
Remember, if you really want your bird to talk,
only buy one bird. Two or more birds may become content speaking thier
birdy lanuage. Also, start working with your bird on talking when it is
young, then, it is more likliy to learn to talk. To teach your bird to
talk, sit down with your bird and repeat a phase over and over. To teach
a bird to talk when you say a certain word or when you give it an item,
just say that word when you begin to give a bird a treat! Although your
bird may not understand what he is saying, you and your talking bird will
enjoy each other.
Here is a price list that includes all the items talked about above:
