Galapagos Sea Lion

 

This is the Galapagos Sea Lion also known as Zalophus californianus by scientists.

Habitat

The Galapagos sea lions live on the bays of the Galapagos Islands and in the sea of Japan.

Appearance, size and weight
Sea Lions are disinguished from a regular seal by its external ears, long, flexible neck, supple forelimbs, and hind flippers whitch can be turned foreward for walking on land. The adult males also known as Bulls grow up to be 7 feet long and can weigh up to 800 pounds. The females are about half the size of the males.
 

General information

Reproduction

The female sea lion waits 2-3 weeks after it gives birth to its pups till it goes and mates again. One female may sometimes babysit a group of pups while the rest go off and feed.
