Habitat

The anhinga is a  bird found in freshwater, such as ponds and swamps.  They like areas especially full of vegetation.

Appearance

The anhinga has a very long thin neck and a dagger-shaped bill, it is a very successful spearfisher due to the fact that it is equipped with a natural harpoon.The male anhinga are generally black with a greenish sheen, and the upper wings have a conspicuous silvery gray patch.Females have a brownish neck and breast with a black belly.

The anhinga feeds on fish and is an expert fisher.It also likes to eat aquatic insects, frogs, water snakes, and small terrapins. The anhinga is also known as the snakebird and sometimes the American darter.
