The best example demonstrating compassion is probably the works of Father Damien because he had compassion for the people that were inflicted with leprosy on the island of Molokai. He helped to heal, comfort people, and show compassion for his fellow man. Even though he knew that he was at risk of catching the disease himself, he still kept on going until he eventually died from leprosy.
I think that Father Damien was like a father to the leper colony in Kalaupapa. He cared for them, built houses for them, and even built coffins for them. He did his best in taking care of them. Nowadays people only think about themselves, so Father Damien should be considered a good role model for all of us.
A way you can show compassion for someone like an elder, is to take care of that elderly person you know and help him/her to live out a happy life. Another way you can help someone is by going to the Leprosy Mission online and donating money to help a person with leprosy. It's really not that costly and the personal benefits to someone suffering with leprosy today would outweigh the few cents you'd have to invest.
