Types of Muscles

In these pages we will be telling you a variety of things on muscles. A lot of information we bet you didn't know about. From how much a muscle weighs to the various types of muscles. Did you know that one of the strongest muscles in your body is the tongue?

In your body there are three types of muscles. There are the skeletal muscle, the cardiac muscle, and the smooth muscle.

Skeletal

The skeletal muscle is a muscle that is connected to the bone. The skeletal muscles give the body shape and holds the skeleton together. Your entire skeleton is covered with muscles. There are 656 skeletal muscles in the human body. This are divided into two groups:
Axial muscles - The muscles of the head, trunk, and neck
Appendicular - The muscle of the arms and legs

Your muscles weigh about three times as much as your bones. Skeletal muscle allow you to move your arms, legs, hands, and other body parts.Your eye movement and tongue movement is controlled by a muscles. Not all muscles attach directly to your bones. Instead they are attached by tendons. For example if you point your toe and bend your foot up, you can feel your Achilles tendon.

Smooth

The smooth muscles are not visible to the human eye without using a microscope. They are muscle cells found in the walls of blood vessels, most of the organs; the kidney, the spleen, the liver, and the digestive tract.

Cardiac

Cardiac muscles are located by the heart. Actually they make up most of the heart's muscles. The strong contractions of these muscles keep the heart beating on and on.
