Nineties Events 

 
     The 90's were a time of big news and actions. NATO allies bombed Yugoslavia to stop removal and killing of Albanians in Kosovo. 
     President Bill Clinton was almost impeached, for lying about a scandal in which he was involved. 
     Princess Diana of England passed away when she was in a horrible car crash in Paris, France on August 31, 1997, leaving her 2 sons behind.  Many people are still investigating the crash. A huge memorial has been set up at the tunnel where her accident occured.  She became a princess in 1981 when she married Charles, Prince of Wales.  She was admired for her sense of caring in her charity work and for her beauty.  Her most focused charities were for children, AIDS sufferers, and an anti-landmine campaign. 
John Glen took his very last visit into space in 1998. John Glen was the first person to orbit the earth. NASA selected Glenn to fly the spaceship Friendship 7 around the Earth.  His flight lasted four hours and fifty-five minutes.  He retired from space travel in 1964 and became the senator of Ohio.  In 1998, he returned for one last travel aboard Discovery.

   On September 13, 1999 a funeral was held for Mother Teresa. She died because of old age. Mother Teresa was a world famous missionary who helped thousands of people in underdeveloped countries, ran an orphanage, and made the lives of poor children more enjoyable.  She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Her charities and work still continues in more than 200 centers in Africa, the Americas, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
  In Colorado, Columbine High School had a horrible tragedy. In the  spring of 1998, two students brought guns and bombs to school and started a shooting massacre. Thirteen people, including a teacher, died in this shooting. 
     In 1992, Mall of America opened it's doors in Bloomington, Minnesota. The Mall of America is the biggest mall in the world. It has over 500 shops not including an indoor theme park and swimming pool. 
     In 1995, the worst bombing in America happened in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It took place in a government building. The bombing killed more than a hundred people including 15 children. 
     Every major event in the nineties will have a great effect on our future.
