Inventions of the 80's

There were many inventions in the the 80's.  Here are a couple of the most famous, the C.D. and the first space shuttle.
In the mid-1960's Philips (Dutch Elect Company) started working on the compact disc. Although they worked very hard, the C.D. was not open to the public until 1980. Philips then joined forces with the Sony Corporation to launch the first C.D. player selling in Japan with the slightly exaggerated term, " Perfect sound forever." By 1983, they were being sold in various continents such as Europe and North America quiet successfully. Since the cost of compact disc technology has dropped, singers and musicians all around the world have able to publish and sell their music.
The first space shuttle, the Columbia, was launched on April 12,1981. The journey lasted 54 hours and 21 minutes. This shuttle was the first to be controlled by man and was designed by NASA (National Aeronotics and Space Administration). The shuttle was planned to help create the first man controlled space station. But, in the end, NASA was forced to launch a smaller craft that was not able to reach the goals they had set for it.  Still, the Columbia weighed 2,000,000 kilograms at takeoff.
