Forties  Entertainment

Entertainment was limited in the 40's because of the war. People usually didn't have the time or money to spend going to the movies or reading a book. Many movies and books were really good, despite this situation.

Casablanca is a timeless classic made in the 40's. This movie starred Humphrey Bogart and other famous actors from this decade.

"we'll always be in Paris.."
One of the most favorite lines from this film.

Rachel Carson wrote many books about the environment and ADT. People took side on this issue very quickly and and not until about 40 years later did people realize that she was right.

Radio shows were very popular in the 40's. Many radio shows that started  in the 30's and were still popular in the 40's such as the ''Shadow''.
Stories about the war were popular. When a wounded solider came home from the war, he spent many hours telling about his experiences. Some tales were a little untruthful. Many made it seem like Germany was crushing  America or that America was going to win in a week.
Stuart Little was written in the forties.  Later in the century, it won the Newberry award for the best book of the year.
The Disney classic Bambi was introduced in the movie theaters in 1942.  The movie was about a deer that was growing up and making new friends. This movie is really good for little children.
One of the children's toys they loved to play with was the new dummy called the "Howdy Doody Doll." The doll was a cowboy that wore brown cowboy boots and a red shirt.
