events
The
30's were a chock-full of events. As tensions rose about the Nazis, many
important discoveries and events happened.
In 1930, Pluto was discovered by US astronomer Cloyed Tombaugh.
Pluto is the farthest planet from the sun in our solar system. Scientist
think that it is made completely out of ice.
The Empire State Building was finished in 1931. Empire State Building,
in central Manhattan, New York City, on Fifth Ave between 33d St. and 34th
St. It was designed by the firm of Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon
and built in 1930-31. For many years it was the tallest building in the
world, having 102 stories. On a very clear day the view from its
highest observation tower embraces an area with a circumference of nearly
200 mi (320 km). It was an office building that accommodates about
25,000 tenants. Many people referred to it as the "Empty State Building"
because almost nobody rented the floors of it.
Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean.
She used the same route that Charles Lindberg had in 1927. She started
out in 1932 and completed her adventure in 1933. On her final adventure,
Amelia left and never returned. Still to this day, they have not found
her plane or her.

At a Miami convnetion in 1933, the mayor of Chicago was killed when a bullet
aimed at President Franklin Roosevelt hit him instead.
In 1934, the famous gangsters Bonnie and Clyde where killed after many
murders and robberies. Texas Rangers shot them in Louisana.
In 1936, the Porsche car company went into business. Porshe cars
are very expensive, high security vehicles.
A gas leak in a Texas school kills 297 people when it exploded in 1937.
The explosion was deliberate. The FBI investigation found the cut
wires, however they never found the criminals.
Bessie Smith, a popular black, blues singer was injured in a car crash
and was taken to an all white hospital. After arriving, the administration
refused to let her in and assist her. She died from her injuries!

The great depression ended in 1939, after 10 years of unemployment.The
Great Depression was a devastating crash of America's stock market. It
crashed in 1929, leading into many troubles for the economy in the thirties.
Many jobs were shut down leaving people jobless and homeless. Products
were sold very cheaply, which brought a numeorous dollar loss to society.
Also, there were many foods were scarce. This was a rough decade
to live during.
In 1939, Germany invaded Poland starting World War II. To learn more about
