The Great Train Robbery was filmed being the first movie to cleverly
link one scene to another, leading to a climax. G. M. Anderson, an unsuccessful
actor, became famous starring in it. He starred in 400 movies in his career.

In Pittsburgh, the first Nickelodeon ( a mini movie theater) opened, showing
early movies.

Fauvism, named for its use of bright colors and bold brushwork, evolves
in Paris. Participants include Henri Matisse, George Braque, and Raoul
Dufy.

An expressionist movement in painting called Die Brucke (The Bridge) emerges
in Dresden, Germany. Influenced by Van Gogh, the work appeared intense,
expressionistic, and primitive. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a leader in the
group.

The first exhibition of cubist paintings was held in Paris. Picasso painted
Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.
