Eyes on me! One, two, three! I am Mrs. Fujita, one of the Loony Tunes' Thinkquest coaches for their website, "The Ukulele -- Voice of Hawaii." It certainly is an exhilarating experience working with these spirited, talented, and zany young men and women. I have been a teacher for twenty-five years but this is only my second year as a Thinkquest coach. Hopefully, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Our Thinkquest students are so smart about computers -- when I grow up I want to be just like them!
I have been living in Hawaii on the island of Kauai for the past twenty-six years. I came here to do my student teaching from California and never left. I became interested in playing the ukulele about fifteen years ago, when I began teaching fourth grade. Playing the ukulele is a very important part of the music program in Hawaii's schools, especially in fourth grade when students study Hawaiiana. I bought a Kamaka concert ukulele and took several classes through Adult Education courses sponsored by the Hawaii Department of Education. The ukulele is a very easy instrument to carry around and comes in handy when you have to do something musical.
We hope you enjoy visiting "The Ukulele -- Voice of Hawaii" and come to love the ukulele as much as we do.
